Hip Pain
The hip is the largest ball and socket joint in the body. The hip and the groin area are a common area for the low back and Sacroiliac or pelvis joint to refer pain. It is oftentimes difficult to distinguish what is truly causing hip pain and frequently it is related to the pelvis, which is made up of three moveable bones, a left and right ilium and a tailbone.
A misaligned pelvis can lead to hip pain and more common condition known as hip bursitis. Bursa are lubricating fluid sacks underneath muscle and when they become inflamed they can become very painful. The hip bursa can become inflamed by a misaligned pelvis and sacroiliac joint dysfunction which causes the muscle over top of the bursa to irritate the condition.
There are numerous causes of hip problems including overuse, bone changes with age, or changes in blood supply. Hip pain may make it difficult to walk, use steps or sleep. The type of pain that a person has may help determine the cause of the hip problem. Because there are so many cause of hip pain, proper diagnosis is important so the underlying cause of the problem may be treated.
When dealing with pain related to the lower extremities, a functional assessment of the entire lower kinetic chain from the low back to the foot has to be considered, since many hip problems are often times related to dysfunction in another area in the lower kinetic chain.
