Kinsman, OH – Advanced Chiropractic & Rehab, Inc., continues to expand services it provides to the community with athletic training services from Jason Day, ATC CSCS and concussion management with Michael Lyons, DC, CCSP. Advanced Chiropractic & Rehab, Inc has been selected by Joseph Badger Local School District to offer these services, along with many others through its Kinsman office, to the Joe Badger student-athletes. This partnership will provide the Joseph Badger student-athletes with a much safer environment for its student athlete population to participate in by having crucial early detection and management of concussion along with on field evaluation and treatment of a wide range of injuries that may occur during athletic competition. Additional treatment and services are also being offered at our Kinsman location with Dr. Robert Hunkus who will be performing student athlete pre-participation physical exams in addition to injury treatment services.
The Joseph Badger Local School District serves the townships of Gustavus, Vernon, Hartford, and Kinsman, Ohio, where Advanced Chiropractic & Rehab opened its newest location in September of last year. The four townships that the Joseph Badger school district serves span 100 square miles, making it the largest school district in Trumbull county by geographical area. The Joseph Badger Braves compete in the Northeastern Athletic Conference, which is comprised of 11 high schools spanning Trumbull, Ashtabula, and Geauga counties.
Advanced Chiropractic & Rehab, Inc. will bring much needed concussion management services to the school district with baseline concussion testing along with full management services including when it will be safe to return to play. Dr Michael Lyons is board certified in chiropractic sports medicine in addition to being on ABCSP national concussion registry.
Dr Lyons states “The current treatment and understanding of concussion has changed greatly in the last few years and is still currently evolving. My training and background will help bring the latest and most up to date information and knowledge to the student athletes of Joe Badger schools. We will be utilizing King-Devick concussion baseline testing on all student athletes which will allow sideline assessment of student athletes with a greater than 90% accurately in identifying a concussion. The King-Devick test can be administered on the sidelines in less than two minutes, and can be administered by the athletic trainer or coaches using an I-pad allowing instant results so concussed players can removed from play. This initial diagnosis is key to preventing further injury while currently 85% of sports related concussion go undetected. Continuing to play with an undiagnosed concussion can double the recovery time increase the likelihood of long-term complications.
